Donald Trump, our self-described stable genius, confuses love of country with love of Trump.
This egocentric, narcissistic gasbag, who occupies the same office as other Republican presidents like Lincoln, Eisenhower and Reagan, simple cannot comprehend that someone could despise him and still be a patriotic American. He simply believes if you love America you must love him too.
During the Obama presidency, there were plenty of people who despised Barack Hussein Obama, but he never questioned their loyalty or love of America. Sadly, the same can't be said Trump.
