Letter: Congress has the power of the purse

Our president says he won’t end the shutdown unless he gets money for his wall.

Congress, not the executive branch, was given the power of the purse in the Constitution. Any member of Congress who gives up the power of Congress to the executive branch should be recalled and removed from Congress.

If Congress wants to give up its rights, then it needs to amend the Constitution to give the enumerated powers to the executive branch.

Why did they even run for office if they can’t defend the Constitution?

Building the wall by declaring a national emergency and bypassing Congress is just another way to bypass Congress’ power of appropriations given to it by our Constitution.
