Letter: Remember ‘Abraham, Martin, and John’

Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune The Salt Lake Chamber honors Sen. Orrin G. Hatch as the 39th Giant in Our City, in honor of his service and professional achievement, Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Grand America Hotel.

In these mendacious times, I often think of the simple lines in the song “Abraham, Martin, and John”: “Didn’t you love the things they stood for? Didn’t they try to find some good for you and me?”

Does anyone believe there will be songs like that sung for Orrin, and Susan, and Mitch?

The truths of Lincoln’s, King’s and the Kennedy brothers’ lives remain our bright beacon despite the right wing’s endless efforts to denigrate them.

Their truths remain our true north — not today’s fraudulent light show that only makes the darkness visible.
