Letter: Don’t let Trump become a dictator — vote Democratic to check his power

(Evan Vucci | The Associated Press) President Donald Trump listens to Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah during a meeting in the Oval Office of the White House, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, in Washington.

When the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution, they wisely created three separate but equal branches of government — executive, legislative and judicial — so that no one branch could dominate.

As far as I can see, the executive and judicial branches are the only functioning parts of our government. The legislative branch has been neutered and is ineffective through the efforts or non-efforts of the Republicans in Congress.

Now the Republicans are pushing to seat another right-wing ideologue on the Supreme Court, and if they win, this will eliminate the Supreme Court as an equal branch of the government. With the legislative and judicial branches sidelined, this will leave us with the executive branch (and President Donald Trump) to run even more rampant over our rights. In other words, we will have a dictatorship.

With the upcoming elections, we citizens may be able to bring some balance back to the three branches of government and prevent America from becoming another nation ruled by one man. As Donald Trump has already shown, he doesn't have the intelligence, temperament or experience to be president, but has all the qualities that a dictator would need
