Letter: Homophobic Christians are going to lose against Pride

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Kylee Galbraith, Brittany Hartman, and Nicole Lee at the Utah Pride Parade, in Salt Lake City, Sunday, June 3, 2018.

I enjoyed the Pride Parade this last weekend even though it was followed by the expected homophobic Christians, carrying threatening signs.

The Pride Parade and festival are a celebration of sexuality, specifically the LGBTQ community. Homosexuals are a historically marginalized group, and that is why we come together to celebrate. There isn’t a “straight pride” parade because it has always been acceptable within society to be straight.

The Pride Parade is to look at those who are against equality straight in the face and say “I’m gay and I’m equal” or “I support the LGBTQ community and I’m straight.”

While those protesters clutch their “holy” books with an imagined malefaction, their “holy” books have no basis in reality, and the sooner they realize that, the better the world will be.
