Well, I am impressed.

Greg Hughes, outgoing speaker of the Utah House of Representatives, wants to run for governor in 2020, but how to keep himself in the public eye when no longer in office?

Easiest thing in the world: After looking in the mirror and seeing the perfect man for the job, Hughes, as your headline states, “puts himself on inland port board,” a stunning self-appointment to a body certainly controversial enough to remain in the news.

And the move has the added benefit of preparing our minds for another action of imperial fiat: Hughes’ idol Donald Trump’s exercising his “absolute right” to pardon himself — something he would not be mentioning now if he didn’t think he was going to need it later.

The age of kings may be over, but these guys give new meaning to the term “self-government.”
