Letter: New Salt Lake City apartments should try to incorporate green space

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Construction at the former Granite Furniture in Sugar House continues at a quick pace as the new Sugarmont Apartments take shape on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. New Census data show that Salt Lake City has surpassed 200,000 residents, and again is the state's fastest-growing city by numbers. It added 5,891 residents between July 1, 2016, and July 1, 2017.

I have grown up in Salt Lake City and even though I’ve gone out of state for college and now out of the country for grad school, I always return to SLC to visit home.

Every time I come back, I notice how much the city is growing, and I recently have noticed the huge number of apartment buildings popping up near downtown.

While I’m happy to see how much growth there is, I’m saddened to see the lack of green space being incorporated with these new homes. It would be so easy to put a roof garden in or keep a little room for a community garden space.

I hope this letter can remind the developers how important green space is to the health of their residents and the vibe of Salt Lake in general.
