Letter: Now that Rolly is gone, remaining Tribune reporters need to step up

(Chris Detrick | The Salt Lake Tribune) Salt Lake Tribune's Paul Rolly in 2015

I read with incredible sadness that Paul Rolly will no longer be writing columns for The Salt Lake Tribune.

When I read that he is retiring so that younger staffers might continue to work, my thought was that I hope they’re up to the task. They have big shoes to fill.

I often read Tribune articles written about local politics and/or more general local complex issues written by other staffers that are superficial and not well organized relative to Rolly’s column. I often end up confused and/or wanting more after reading many investigative reporting pieces.

His pieces dripped with maturity and experience. Hands down, his columns have been my favorite part of The Tribune for years. I would go so far as to say that his columns made The Tribune distinctive, in a positive way, from any other source of regional news.
