Regarding the race between Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams and Rep. Mia Love, it appears to me that we in Utah should not make this a proxy fight about Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

Instead, we should ask which candidate would be willing to put him- or herself on the line to fight for the rights of poor people and families being torn apart at the border. We have to be civilized enough to recognize the insanity of the idea that poor people are not smart enough, or hard-working enough, to succeed. We have to be civilized enough to recognize that families at the border wouldn’t be there if not out of desperation.

It seems clear to me that Ben McAdams is the candidate who is willing to look past scoring political points, to fight for people who can’t fight for themselves.
