As an old vet and retired accountant I am a little confused with our Utah Republican representatives who claim we need a “free market.”
Rep. John Knotwell, sponsor of HB169, is asking to give EnergySolutions a break of $1.7 million on fees it pays the state.
Is this because various state Republican representatives received $67,700 from EnergySolutions (The Tribune, Feb. 6); they cannot prostitute themselves quickly enough to protect EnergySolutions? Or is it that Rep. Mike Noel extols EnergySolutions for having no record of abuse, no conflict within the environment in 16 years, but the Utah Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control in 2015 (The Tribune, Feb. 7) fined EnergySolutions $50,000?
Are the state Republican representatives telling me that EnergySolutions, which donated large sums of money and has questionable violations in its environmental permits, should not pay its fair share, but a old vet like me should pay his fair share?
