Construction work will close Interstate 15 in Layton in both directions overnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

The freeway will close between Layton Parkway and Antelope Drive each night while crews demolish portions of the Gentile Street bridge.

It is scheduled to close Friday at 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. on Saturday; on Saturday beginning at 10 p.m. until 9 a.m. on Sunday; and Sunday evening at 9 until 5 a.m. on Monday.

Traffic will be detoured off the freeway onto Main Street then back to I-15.

The Gentile Street bridge is being widened and the driving surface is being replaced as part of UDOT’s I-15 Express Lanes project. Crews are working to widen I-15 and extend the express lanes in both directions from Layton to Riverdale. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2021.

Two canyon paving and maintenance projects also are expected to cause delays in Big Cottonwood Canyon and American Fork Canyon.

In Big Cottonwood, crews are paving the highway from milepost 8 (past the Mineral Fork trailhead) to the Brighton Ski Resort loop. This work will continue Mondays through Thursdays during daytime hours for the next few months. Drivers should expect one-way traffic controlled by flaggers, and delays of up to 15 minutes.

In American Fork Canyon, crews are repaving the main highway from 5500 West in Highland to the Pine Hollow trailhead. It is also paving the road to Tibble Fork Reservoir.

Crews are working both days and nights there, Sunday through Friday. Drivers and cyclists should plan for delays of 10-15 minutes and one-way traffic controlled by flaggers. Restrictions affecting trailhead access and entrance fee collection are also in place. For more details, call the project hotline at (385) 501-2100 or visit http://udot.utah.gov/go/afcanyon.
