President Donald Trump’s skepticism of climate change has seeped into the GOP mainstream, as many congressional Republicans and newly elected lawmakers also refuse to embrace scientific evidence on global warming. Broad agreement exists in the scientific community that the Earth’s temperature is rising, with the last Republican president, George W. Bush, acknowledging the trend and that human activity is a factor in the problem. Years later, Trump has led the way for many other Republicans to question or deny the science. Sen.-elect Mitt Romney, R-Utah, has affirmed the existence of climate change and voiced concern about the “anti-scientific attitude” among members of his party. [WaPost]
