(Matt York | The Associated Press) Volunteers prepare donations for delivery to those affected by COVID-19 on tribal lands Thursday, June 25, 2020, in Tempe, Ariz. The resource drive is for families isolated due to COVID-19 on Navajo, Hualapai, Havasupai and White Mountain Apache tribal lands.

Window Rock, Ariz. • The Navajo Department of Health has reported 94 additional positive cases of coronavirus on the Navajo Nation with 12 more known deaths.

That pushes the total of positive COVID-19 cases on the reservation to 7,414 as of Saturday night with the death toll now at 362.

Preliminary reports from 12 health care facilities indicate about 5,068 people have recovered from COVID-19.

Tribal health officials said 53,913 people have been tested for the coronavirus so far.

The Navajo Nation stretches into northeastern Arizona, northwestern New Mexico and southeastern Utah.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

But for some — especially older adults and people with existing health problems — it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
