Lewiston police not releasing details of accidental shooting

Lewiston, Idaho • The Lewiston Police Department and the city of Lewiston will not release the names of the two officers who were injured when a gun accidentally fired in the department's basement at the end of a training session or any other details, citing privacy issues.

The Lewiston Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1HoMtp6 ) that the department and the city have denied public information requests filed by the newspaper.

The gunshot injured the hands of two officers after a training session for the force's SWAT team on Oct. 21.

Police Chief Chris Ankeny says the accidental discharge was the result of a policy violation and that the incident is still under investigation. He says he cannot release information about the investigation before it is complete.
