Another 10 Utahns die of COVID-19

Ten more Utahns died of COVID-19 in the past day, according to the Utah Department of Health.

That brought the total deaths reported in the past seven days to 68, and the total so far in January to 248. Utah hit 1,500 deaths on Monday, and that total now stands at 1,517.

Vaccinations reported in past day/total vaccinations • 8,566 / 181,169.

Cases reported in past day • 2,159.

Deaths reported in past day • 10.

There were five deaths in Salt Lake County, (a man and a woman ages 45-64, a woman 65-84, and two women 85-plus); four deaths in Utah County (a man and a woman 65-84, and a man and a woman 85-plus); and one death in Carbon County (a man 65-84).

Hospitalizations reported in past day • 551. That’s down 22 from Tuesday. Of those currently hospitalized, 210 are in intensive care units — six fewer than Tuesday.

Tests reported in past day • 10,916.

Percentage of positive tests • 19.8%. That’s slightly higher than the seven-day average of 18.9%, a figure that has been declining.

Totals to date • 328,380 cases; 1,517 deaths; 12,729 hospitalizations; 1,922,786 tests.
