(Zion National Park) Firefighters are battling the Kolob Upper Fire in Zion National Park.

A road that was closed after a wildfire ignited in Zion National Park on Wednesday has been reopened.

On Wednesday evening, officials closed Kolob Terrace Road from State Route 9 to the Lava Point area in the park because of firefighting efforts. On Tuesday morning, the road was reopened “with a pilot car guiding traffic past the Kolob Upper Fire near Maloney Hill (about 15 driving miles north of State Rt. 9),” according to a tweet from Zion National Park.

The Kolob Upper Fire ignited near the park’s Maloney Hill at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and was measured at 20-30 acres at 7:20 p.m., according to Utah Fire Info.

Zion-Canyon Scenic Drive and Zion-Mount Carmel Highway are not affected and remain open.

Ground crews, helicopters and air tankers are battling the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
