Weather will be wet this week in northern Utah, but the weekend should be nice

Expect rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains.

Utahns in the northern and central parts of the state can expect rain on Tuesday and Wednesday as a storm arrives. And it is expected to snow at higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service, there is an 80% chance of rain in Salt Lake City on Tuesday and continuing through Tuesday night.

There also is a 30% chance of more rain Wednesday, mostly before 11 a.m., with temperatures in the low 50s. There could be more rain Wednesday night — a 20% chance. There also is a 20% chance of precipitation before 11 a.m. on Veterans Day, with highs near 50.

The forecast calls for snow in the mountains Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning. Slick and slushy roads are likely in the Wasatch and Uinta mountains, Big and Little Cottonwood canyons, and Bald Mountain Pass, which all could get 5 to 8 inches of snow, according to the weather service. And the Bear River Range, Logan Summit and Monte Cristo Peak could get 2 to 4 inches.

The forecast for Salt Lake City this weekend is looking better — mostly sunny with temperatures in the low 50s on Friday and the upper 50s on Saturday and Sunday.

There is nothing but nice weather in the forecast for southern Utah this week. It will be mostly sunny Tuesday and then altogether sunny Wednesday through Sunday, with temperatures in the low to mid-70s.
