Nice Utah weather will give way to rain this weekend

Northern Utah may see showers Saturday through Wednesday.

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Rain showers fall in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Saturday, August 21, 2021.

It’s going to be gorgeous in Utah for a couple of days — until rain returns to the northern part of the state.

Mostly sunny skies are expected across the state leading into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. In Salt Lake City, temperatures are forecast in the mid-60s Thursday and about 70 on Friday.

Then, just in time for the weekend, temperatures are expected to drop into the 50s with more rain in the forecast — a 40% chance on Saturday, with a 50% Saturday evening, and 30% chance on Sunday.

Next week, another storm also is expected to bring more rain to northern Utah on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

High winds — with gusts of 45-60 mph — are possible across western Utah on Monday. Heavy mountain snow is possible above 9,000 feet late Monday into Tuesday.

The weekend is looking better in southern Utah. It’ll be mostly sunny through Monday, with temperatures in the 70s in St. George. There’s a chance of rain Monday afternoon and a stronger chance on Monday night, possibly lingering into Tuesday, the weather service said.
