No rain expected at University of Utah, BYU, USU, Weber State or SUU football games

Temperatures should be rather pleasant.

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Lightning strikes as a severe thunder storm brings pouring rain forcing fans out of the stands at the start of the PAC-12 football game between the University of Utah and Weber State at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021. According to the National Weather Service, it will by dry for games across the state on Saturday.

Good news, football fans: There are five college games in Utah on Saturday, and the National Weather Service doesn’t expect a drop of rain to fall on any of them.

In the Salt Lake City area, weekend temperatures will be rather pleasant, with highs forecast in the low to mid-80s through Tuesday. The next chance of rain is Tuesday night, when a cold front is expected, dropping temperatures to the mid-60s on Wednesday.

Temperatures in the St. George area will hit the mid-90s on Saturday, then stay at about 90 through Tuesday. That cold front will drop the highs there to about 80 on Wednesday, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight on Tuesday, continuing into Wednesday.

With the exception of patchy smoke from Western wildfires in parts of southwestern Utah on Friday morning, air quality is expected to be pretty good this weekend. The Utah Department of Environmental Quality is forecasting green/good conditions in Cache, Duchesne, Iron, Uintah, Washington and Weber/Box Elder counties, and yellow/moderate in Carbon, Salt Lake, Tooele and Utah counties.
