Portion of State Street to close this weekend

The southbound lanes at State Street in Salt Lake City will be closed from 400 South to 500 South on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for sewer line work, the city said in a news release. Traffic going north on State Street will be able to use only one lane, and westbound traffic on 500 South will have only two lanes.

People commuting in the city are being asked to take public transit or use alternative routes on 400 South, West Temple or 200 East, according to the release.

The closure is part of a project by the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities to replace aged sewer pipeline and install a new diversion structure. The whole project should last until October.
