Utah woman dies when she’s pulled into a mattress factory machine

Purple Mattress shuts down Grantsville facility while OSHA investigates.

An employee was killed at a Grantsville mattress factory Thursday when she was pulled into one of the machines.

The victim, 52-year-old Anita Coester, got her arm stuck in the machine at the Purple Mattress manufacturing facility at 441 S. Sheep Lane. Police say they were called at 4:41 p.m. and arrived minutes later. First responders were unable to revive the woman after she was extricated, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Purple Mattress issued a statement expressing its sadness and adding, “We have shut down manufacturing pending an investigation as we place the health and safety of our employees first and foremost.”

According to police, Purple employees said the woman’s death was accidental. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
