After a typically slow Sunday — just 5,212 tests and 246 new cases of COVID-19 — Utah closed in on 880,000 people fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
That’s roughly 38% of eligible Utahns age 16 and older, according to a 2019 estimate of the state’s population by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Utah also added one more death to its total, which is approaching 2,200.
Vaccine doses administered in past day/total doses administered • 14,019 / 2,053,317.
Utahns fully vaccinated • 879,342.
Cases reported in past day • 246.
Deaths reported in past day • One — a man in Salt Lake County between the ages of 65 and 84.
Tests reported in past day • 3,026 people were tested for the first time. A total of 5,212 people were tested.
Hospitalizations reported in past day • 146. That’s down 11 from Sunday. Of those currently hospitalized, 61 are in intensive care units, unchanged from Sunday.
Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method, the rate is 8.1%. That’s higher than the seven-day average of 6.1%.
The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Monday’s rate was 4.7%, higher than the seven-day average of 3.0%.

Totals to date • 395,677 cases; 2,183 deaths; 16,070 hospitalizations; 2,533,517 people tested.
