Police have identified the man killed in a shooting at a Salt Lake City convenience store on Wednesday.
Thompson Kamara, 21, was shot during an “altercation of some kind,” according to police, at the store at 203 E. Hampton Ave. shortly before midnight on Dec. 30. He died at the scene.
Witnesses told police that Kamara and a second man, whose name has not been released, were shot by a man who fled in a dark-colored, possibly gray, Nissan Altima. There may have been more than one person in the car. The second victim was taken to the University of Utah Hospital in critical condition, but is expected to recover.
The Salt Lake City Police department has released no further information, but on a GoFundMe page soliciting funds for Kamara’s funeral, his sister wrote, “My baby brother was shot while at work and died at the scene of the crime.”
As of Tuesday evening, the page had raised $20,330.
No arrests have been made in the shooting, and police have not released any further information about a suspect or suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call Salt Lake City police at 801-799-3000.
