Brigham Young University’s Harold B. Lee Library shut down a common space with study tables Thursday because students weren’t in compliance with the university’s mask policies.
“Thank you to all the students wearing masks,” the library’s Twitter account announced. “Most of you are really helping. I’ve found a few places where people think they don’t need a mask. From now on I’ll be closing areas for the day where people aren’t following the university policy.”
BYU spokesperson Carri Jenkins told The Salt Lake Tribune that the closure is not a university initiative. She said it is part of the library’s efforts to enforce BYU’s policy calling for masks to be worn on campus. Jenkins said this is the first public space that the library has temporarily closed.
