Police say they have found the body of Scott William Russell, who is suspected of having killed his wife by shooting her five times in the back.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert Wednesday warning that Russell was “armed and dangerous.” The alert said Russell may have been headed to Colorado driving a black 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser.

On Thursday, police received a call about a car that had crashed off Highway 39 around mile marker 15, according to a statement from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office. Officers found the car 300 to 400 yards from the road. Inside the car was a body identified as Russell. His injuries were consistent with a car crash, police said.

Russell had been charged in 2nd District Court with murder, felony discharge of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Weber County Sheriff’s deputies went to the home in Huntsville where the shooting occurred Tuesday night on a report that Russell had shot his wife. The person who reported the shooting heard about it from Russell’s adult son who lives in a different state.

Police found the victim in the master bedroom with five shots in her back. The son told police his father had called him and told him he shot his wife. The son said he was “acting very erratic” and “kept repeating statements,” according to court documents.
