Liquor store in Hurricane closed after employee tests positive for coronavirus

The state-run liquor store in Hurricane was temporarily closed on Wednesday, after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is working with the Washington County Health Department to determine if other employees at the southern Utah store, located at 202 N. Foothills Canyon Dr., were exposed, agency spokesman, Terry Wood, said in an email.

“At present, we do not have a time or date of reopening,” he said. “We will issue further information as soon as possible.”

This marked the sixth time that the liquor agency had to close a store because an employee became infected with the coronavirus. Two Salt Lake City stores and a store in Pleasant Grove were forced to close temporarily in June. And, in April, stores in Murray and Moab were shuttered.

Each time, the stores have been sanitized before reopening to the public.
