A St. George man was charged with murder Wednesday after telling police he shot his roommate.

Officers responded Tuesday to a report of a gunshot and found the victim who had been shot in the chest, according to a probable cause affidavit. The man, whose identity had not been released as of Wednesday morning, was taken to a hospital where he died, the affidavit states.

Tommy James Bradshaw Jr., 32, told police the victim had returned home and loudly hit Bradshaw’s bedroom door. Bradshaw got a handgun from his closet, which he said was “typically stored with a loaded magazine while it was in the house,” the affidavit states.

Bradshaw “deactivated the safety, operated the slide and left his room to seek out the victim,” according to the affidavit. He found the victim in a closet “and pointed the gun at him before pulling the trigger and seeing the victim fall to the ground,” according to police.

Bradshaw was booked with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday. He has been charged in 5th District Court with murder, a first-degree felony.

Police and court documents did not specify exactly when and where the shooting occurred. A call to a police spokesperson was not immediately returned. Bradshaw’s address is listed in court documents as in the 500 block of South 1900 East.
