A pet dog was shot and killed in Eagle Mountain, and police are asking for the public’s help to identify the shooter or shooters.

A man who lives on Ute Drive in the Kiowa Valley area of Eagle Mountain reported that he and his 4-year-old daughter were in the backyard of his home Friday afternoon when he heard what he thought were fireworks “and then saw his daughter’s dog, a 4-year-old mini-Doberman named Lucky, come running to him.” The homeowner knew “immediately … that Lucky had been shot,” according to a news release from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

The homeowner told police he saw two men he believed shot the dog “a short distance away, near the end of the cul-de-sac on Eagle Top Court.” But, rather than pursue them, he took Lucky to a veterinarian — who was unable to save the dog’s life.

According to Sgt. Spencer Cannon, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, deputies “followed a blood trail” from Lucky’s home “to the backyard of a home on nearby Eagle Top Court, but they have not yet been able to make an arrest.”

Cannon asked that anyone who lives on Eagle Top Court, Golden Eagle Road or Ute Drive who has security or doorbell camera footage that shows anyone walking or driving by between about 3-4 p.m. on Friday, June 12, to call Det. Dallin Turner at 801-851-4013.
