Charging documents allege the wife of a man accused of murdering a West Jordan couple threw away his bloody clothes and and cleaned the suspect’s apartment to get rid of possible evidence.
Sina Johnson, 29, faces a second-degree felony count of obstructing justice.
The documents, filed Thursday in Third District Court, also show what happened in the hours after Albert Johnson allegedly killed Tony and Katherine Butterfield at their home, and revealed how Johnson knew the Butterfields.
Police said early on in an interview with them, Sina Johnson said she had last seen her husband on April 17, but police noted that her “story kept changing about her knowledge of the homicide and her contact with Albert.”
She “eventually” told police that her husband came home around 3 or 4 a.m. on April 18 and was “rushing” around.
“Albert told her that someone stabbed him and that his life was over ,” the documents state.
It says he showered, changed clothes and left. Sina Johnson told police she didn’t know where he was going, but that she threw away his bloody clothes and shoes after she learned of that he was suspected of homicide.
She also cleaned the apartment, wiping away blood on the hallway walls and in the bathroom, charges allege.
Sina Johnson told police she was familiar with the Butterfields because her husband had tried to get a job at their company.
West Jordan police had previously declined to comment on how Albert Johnson knew the couple, saying only they knew each other.
Albert Johnson was arrested Wednesday in Stockton, Calif. He will be extradited to Utah. Sina Johnson remains in Salt Lake County jail.
