How you can help: Donate to The Road Home, Best Friends, University of Utah arts

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Georgia O'Keefe's "Manhattan (1932)" is one of three iconic landscape paintings on loan from the Smithsonian American Art Museum at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts in Salt Lake City. A new fundraising campaign supports the University of Utah's cultural venues.

Donate: The Road Home needs items, cash

If you want to help someone during the coronavirus pandemic, The Road Home is seeking donations to assist the Salt Lake Valley’s homeless population.

The nonprofit, which runs a men’s shelter in South Salt Lake and a family shelter in Midvale, is in critical need of the following items:

• Hygiene wipes.

• Blankets.

• Disposable coffee cups.

• 4 oz. portion cups and lids.

• Metal and disposable spoons and forks.

Donations can be made from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at The Road Home’s two locations: The Men’s Resource Center, at 3380 S. 1000 West, South Salt Lake; or at the Midvale Family Resource Center, 529 W. 9th Ave., Midvale.

Cash donations also can be made via The Road Home’s website, theroadhome.org.

Donate: Best Friends needs pet food, money

The Best Friends Animal Society in Sugar House is in desperate need of donations after its pet food pantry was emptied over the weekend.

The organization helps local pet owners who have lost jobs because of coronavirus-related shutdowns. On Saturday, Best Friends filled 26 orders, three times the number it filled the previous Saturday. From Tuesday-Saturday, pet owners received 830 pounds of cat food and 1,460 pounds of dog food, emptying the pantry.

Donations of pet food in any amount can be dropped off in bins by the entrance to the Best Friends Lifesaving Center at 2005 S. 1100 East. Dry dog and cat food is particularly appreciated, and open bags are accepted if they’ve been taped up securely.

You can also donate through the Best Friends Amazon Charity List link.

Pet owners in need of food can email utahtnr@bestfriends.org to make an appointment for curbside pick up.

Donate: University of Utah cultural icons seek cash

The University of Utah is making it simple to donate money to its cultural institutions, with its unified “OneU” campaign.

“We are accustomed to gathering in venues at the U and across the state to learn together, share wonder, sorrow, and joy, and find inspiration,” the campaign’s online plea reads. “It’s an unprecedented time with theaters dark, museums and gardens closed, and programs suspended.”

The campaign supports these organizations that call the U. home: The College of Fine Arts, the Natural History Museum of Utah, Pioneer Theatre Company, Red Butte Garden and Arboretum, Tanner Dance, the Tanner Humanities Center, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, and Utah Presents (the performance series at Kingsbury Hall).

As of Wednesday morning, the campaign has raised $1,550 in pledged donations.
