An 18-year-old died after being buried in an avalanche Saturday in Davis County.
According to the sheriff’s office, the 18-year-old was snowmobiling with his father in Farmington Canyon around 1:45 p.m. when an avalanche occurred.
Emergency responders found the 18-year-old and dug him out of the snow. The man was taken to the hospital, and later died.
The sheriff’s office did not release the man’s name. Utah Avalanche Center will investigate the cause of the avalanche.
Heading into the weekend, following a cold front and winter storm early Friday, the avalanche center warned of potential dangers in the backcountry.
“Visitors to the Utah backcountry this weekend will find great powder snow and nice weather,” it said in a statement, “but don’t let your guard down because dangerous avalanche conditions exist on wind-drifted upper elevation slopes.”
On Saturday, the organization reported high avalanche danger in the Uintas, with considerable danger in the mountains between Logan and Provo.

The 18-year-old is at least the second to have died in an avalanche this winter season, according to the center.
Matt Tauszik, who is from Salt Lake City and was the executive chef for Marriott Salt Lake City University Park, was killed while snowboarding in the backcountry in December.
