Utah man dies almost two weeks after ‘Friendsgiving’ shooting

One of three men shot at a “Friendsgiving” dinner in South Jordan has died, according to police.

Efrain Castro, 23, was shot approximately eight or nine times early Thanksgiving morning, according to South Jordan Police. He had been hospitalized since the shooting, and died Wednesday at Intermountain Medical Center. The other two victims — who were each shot once — are recovering from their wounds and have been released from the hospital.

The body of the suspect in the shooting, Joshua Garcia-Perez, 26, was found Dec. 2 at a residential construction site near 6200 West and 11000 South. South Jordan police initially termed his death “suspicious,” but after further investigation determined no one else was involved.

The shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 28 during a dispute at home where about a dozen friends had gathered to celebrate Thanksgiving.
