One teenager killed, another wounded in West Valley shooting

West Valley City police are searching for suspects after a shooting left one teenager dead and another wounded.

Neko Jardine, 19, was shot in the neck, chest and torso at a home near 5600 West 4360 South early Sunday morning, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

According to police, two cars drove up to the house shortly after midnight, and an altercation began between the occupants of the vehicles and people at the house. About a dozen shots were fired. In addition to Jardine, a 17-year-old was shot multiple time in the leg and an 18-year-old was cut during the fight. Both were treated at a hospital and released.

Police are searching for a white Ford Mustang and a red Nissan Altima that sped from the home after the shots were fired. No suspects have been identified, and there are no descriptions of the people in those cars.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call West Valley police at 801-840-4000.

A GoFundMe page to help pay for Jardine’s medical expenses and funeral services says that he excelled “in sports, academic, church events." A 2018 graduate of Kearns High, he played for the football team.

“Neko was an example of loyalty, hard work, service and known for being there with you — til the very end,” the page reads.
