South Salt Lake street reopens after cyclist, 70, is hit by car and severely injured

A 70-year-old cyclist was severely injured when he was hit by a car Wednesday afternoon in South Salt Lake.

The man was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, said Gary Keller, spokesman for the South Salt Lake Police Department. He was in critical condition, but stabilized, on Wednesday evening.

The accident happened about 4:23 p.m. at 900 West and 3265 South. The cyclist was crossing 3265 West, heading south, when he was hit by a car going east. The driver, a 20-year-old woman, was not impaired and was cooperating with police, Keller said.

The cyclist was not wearing a helmet, he said.

An investigating team was sent to the crash site, Keller said. Police blocked off 900 West from 3100 South to 3300 South for about three hours.

This is a developing story.
