Utahns have one more day to file state taxes, because of computer glitch that prevented federal filings

Utahns will have an additional day to file state taxes, thanks to a law that requires state tax deadlines to match the federal due date.

After computer problems hindered federal filings before the Tuesday tax deadline, the IRS announced a one-day extension. Utah is following suit, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

State taxes must be paid and filed by 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.

“This extension is consistent with the statutory direction and recognizes the burden on taxpayers if the two systems have different filings deadlines,” Tax Commission chairman John Valentine said in the release.

While a computer glitch caused filing problems at the federal level, no such issues were reported in Utah, according to the release.
