A Sevier County man will serve up to 30 years in prison for shooting and killing another man in 2015.
William Muir, 42, pleaded guilty in February to second-degree felony manslaughter and felony discharge of a firearm, admitting he shot 36-year-old David Rioja during a fight that involved a baseball bat.
A 6th District judge on Tuesday sentenced Muir to two consecutive prison terms of up to 15 years in prison on each charge.
Police have said Muir shot Rioja on Nov. 22, 2015, during a fight, but a further motive for the killing has never been publicly released.
Rioja died in the driveway of his Venice, Utah, home. Muir was also hurt in the scuffle, and was treated for injuries likely caused by the bat.
