A car rushing through an intersection hit a 12-year-old boy in a Spanish Fork crosswalk, police say

A 12-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after his foot was run over by a car rushing through an intersection.

Children walking home from school Thursday were using a crosswalk at 400 North and State Route 51 in Spanish Fork when an eastbound vehicle ran over the boy’s foot.

Sgt. Chris Sheriff of the Spanish Fork police said a crossing guard was walking into the street to stop traffic when the 40-year-old driver apparently tried to rush past before the pedestrians entered the crosswalk.

The boy ran in front of the crossing guard and was hit, Sheriff said. He was taken to an area hospital but did not sustain any broken bones.

The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.

“The kid did kind of take off,” Sheriff said, “but she also should have waited.”
