West Jordan police receive report of possible child abduction, ask parents to check on their children

A 10-year-old boy said he witnessed “some type of confrontation,” before a girl was forced into a black van, police said.

After hearing a report of a possible child abduction from a 10-year-old boy, West Jordan police on Thursday morning are asking that community members verify that their children are where they’re supposed to be.

According to Sgt. J.C. Holt, the boy reported that just after 7:40 a.m. he had seen “some type of confrontation,” including a verbal argument, near at an apartment complex at 3951 W. Serenity View Way (6820 South).

The boy reported that after a brief struggle, he saw a man force a white female — possibly between the ages of 12 and 16 — into a black van on Center Park Drive (7200 South) that drove away.

The girl’s hair was blond with some brown in it, the boy said, and the man she was arguing with appeared to be interacting with another man who was driving a white car. The boy said the white car appeared to follow the van after it left.

Police are investigating the report, Holt said, but they’re not sure whether the boy saw an abduction, a “parental issue” between the girl and her guardian, or something else.

There is no surveillance video in the area where the possible abduction occurred, Holt said, but detectives are working with apartment managers to learn more about who may have been in the area.

At a time when children are typically in school, “we assume there are possibly people who haven’t checked on their kids,” Holt said, “and we want to err on the side of caution.”

Anyone who was in the area or may have more information on the incident is asked to call police.
