SLCPD hopes video will help find 'persons of interest' in homeless district slaying

Police have released video from a security camera investigators say shows two “persons of interest” in the fatal shooting last month of a man on the sidewalk in downtown Salt Lake City’s homeless district.

The clip shows the men walking down the sidewalk between 300 and 400 South along 400 West. One is white or Latino, wearing a dark baseball cap with a white logo, and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark shorts and short white socks with low-top black and white shoes, possibly Converse “Chuck Taylor” branded.

The second man is black, wearing a dark hat, white T-shirt, dark zip-up jacket with a hood, dark pants and bright white sneakers.

Salt Lake City police Detective Keith Horrocks said the men are wanted for questioning in the July 26 slaying of 26-year-old Shawn J. Manymules, who was found deceased in an area frequented by transient street campers about a block from the Road Home Shelter and other homeless services.

The crime scene also is just across the street from Pioneer Park, where dozens of homeless people sleep. The area has been plagued with an upsurge in violence and drug crimes over the past few months.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000, or anonymously text 274637 using the keyword “TIPSLCPD.”
