NBC premieres the new sitcom "Crowded" tonight (9 and 9:30 p.m., Ch. 5) and — it's not terrible.

If that sounds like faint praise, well, it is.

It's a new show that feels very much like an old show. Like shows we've seen umpteen times before.

It's about middle-aged couple Mike and Martina (Patrick Warburton and Carrie Preston), who have raised two daughters and are gleefully anticipating the prospect of having the house to themselves. But, this being 2016, their grown daughters (Miranda Cosgrove, Mia Serafino) move back in, upsetting Mom and Dad's plans for sex whenever and wherever they want.

If that doesn't make the house "Crowded" enough, Mike's father (Stacy Keach) and stepmother (Carlease Burke) unexpectedly show up, too, expecting to move in.

There are lots of jokes about age and race here (Mike's stepmother is African-American), but the show is more loud than it is funny.

It's not terrible. There are worse ways to spend a half hour — or an hour, what with back-to-back episodes airing tonight.

After this premiere, "Crowded" moves to its regular time slot on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
