Logan police shoot and kill man they say shot at them

Two officers suffered minor injuries.

(Logan City Police Department) A man who reportedly fired a gun at two Logan officers was shot dead by one of them.

A Logan police officer shot and killed a man on Wednesday after the man shot at police, officers said.

On Wednesday at about 4:30 p.m., Logan City Police Department detectives “contacted an adult male during an investigation,” according to a news release. (Police did not say where they were or what they were investigating.) The man, whose name has not been released, “began to resist” arrest and pulled out a gun, “which he discharged at officers at close range.”

One of the officers shot the man. Despite lifesaving efforts, he died at the scene. Two officers suffered minor injuries; they were treated at a hospital for “non-life-threatening injuries” and released.

Police did not say how many shots were fired or how many times the dead man was hit.

The officer who fired the shots has been placed on paid administrative leave while the Northern Utah Critical Incident Protocol Team investigates the shooting.

According to a database maintained by The Salt Lake Tribune, this was the eighth police shooting in Utah this year.
