Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn didn't let a little thing like an interception, a return for a touchdown and a 14-0 deficit in the Poinsettia Bowl bother him.

The first-year freshman overcame a shaky start Wednesday night, threw for three touchdowns and earned offensive MVP honors in the Utes' 37-27 win over Cal.

Wynn completed 26 of 36 passes for a career-high 338 yards and three touchdowns. But what about that interception?

"Aw, I just made a bad read and forced it in there," said Wynn. "That's something I'm going to continue to learn from. At the same time, I knew it was early in the game and just had to let it go."

Eddie Young's 31-yard return for a touchdown gave Cal a two-touchdown lead, but Wynn was the game's dominant player over the final 31/2 quarters.

"I'm sure he wants that throw back in the first quarter -- the pick six," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. "But the bottom line is, it didn't rattle him. He stayed focused. ... He's an unflappable guy. He's got a great deal of confidence and he started clocking."

Offensive coordinator Dave Schramm agreed.

"That's who Jordan is," he said. "He's one of those guys who has a very short memory when he does something great or when he makes a mistake. That bodes well for his future."

Making only his fifth career start, Jordan guided Utah to its ninth straight bowl win.

"That's huge," Wynn said. "The streak was all we've been talking about. To come out and keep it alive feels great. Just great."

After Utah fell behind, Wynn hit tight end Kendrick Moeai with six-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone to make it 14-7.

"Kendrick played a great game," Wynn said. "That first one I was just trying to put it almost where he could catch it or no one could. It was almost a throw-away, but he went up and got it."

Later, Wynn hit Moeai on a 15-yard touchdown pass down the middle to make it 17-14.

The Utes never trailed again.

"On that one, Kendrick just got singled up on a linebacker," Wynn said. "That's one of the perks running the spread offense and he won the match up."
