In the first two quarters, Casteel had three carries for 20 yards and two receptions for 52 yards. But the connection between Casteel and Brian Johnson just wasn't the same in the second half and Casteel had just one reception for 13 yards.
But Casteel knows just how quickly that can change.
"You can be quiet for a long time and the next thing you know, bam," Casteel said. "You gotta be ready in the fourth quarter and make big plays."
Casteel stayed collected under pressure and made two big catches in the last two minutes to help the Utes come from behind and beat Oregon State 31-28.
"There was more of a sense of urgency," Johnson said. "And Brent made nice catches to set us up with good field position."
Down eight points, Johnson connected with Casteel for a 24-yard pass to get the Utes to Oregon State's 25-yard line with 1:37 remaining. Utah would go on to score on that drive.
Casteel's next big reception came with 37.4 seconds left to play. His 16-yard catch gave the Utes a first down after a third-and-3 situation put Utah on the Beavers' 24-yard line. That set up the winning 37-yard field goal by Louie Sakoda.
"I just felt it was the perfect situation. I knew it was going to work out," said Casteel, who finished with 125 total yards of offense. "All I had to do was catch it and the next play was a touchdown. So, it felt pretty good to be involved."
