Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. is expected to sign legislation today that will force motorists to stay at least three feet or a safe, reasonable distance away from bicyclists. House Bill 49, sponsored by Rep. Roz McGee, D-Salt Lake City, comes after a motorist hit and killed 25-year-old Josie Johnson last summer while she was biking in Big Cottonwood Canyon. HB49 also forks out $20,000 of state money to start a public safety campaign to promote bicycle safety.
