Highway 6 will soon be known as the Mike Dmitrich Highway.
The former Democratic state senator, who served in the Legislature for 40 years, worked to improve the highway, which has in the past had the notoriety of being one of the deadliest stretches of roadway in the state.
Both houses passed SB66, naming the stretch of Highway 6 from I-15 to I-70 after the Price lawmaker.
Legislators praised Dmitrich for his years of leadership and friendship before passing the bill out of the House and giving the man a standing ovation.
"It's not often that we name roads after people who are still working, but it sounds like we had a nice eulogy for you, Mike," said House sponsor Rep. Mike Morley, R-Spanish Fork.
The bill now moves to the governor for his signature.
