A measure introduced at the Legislature would strengthen penalties for underage drinkers.
Rep. Curtis Oda, R-Clearfield, introduced House Bill 129 on Wednesday. The bill would provide the possibility of class A misdemeanor penalties -- a year in jail, a cash fine and three years of a suspended license -- for repeat offenders.
It also would allow clubs and bars to go after repeat offenders for up to half the fine the establishment had to pay the state for the violation.
Oda says that if the drinker is under 18, a club or bar might be able to seek money from the parents, too.
He says the bill provides penalties for underage drinkers and those responsible for them.
