When Jennifer Hill-Barlow was 8, she realized what she wanted to be when she grew up: a ballerina.

Her older sister was taking ballet, and Hill-Barlow, a Cedar Hills resident, begged to take lessons.

"I stood at that barre and I knew what I wanted to do," she said.

Since then, she's studied under Willam F. Christensen at the University of Utah and performed with Ballet West, the Cincinnati Ballet and the Guangzhou Ballet in China. She also spent two seasons as a member of Radio City Music Hall's high-kicking Rockettes. When she had her first child in 2006, Hill-Barlow ended her professional stage career. But she didn't give up ballet.

Hill-Barlow and her husband, Blake Barlow, started Barlow Arts Conservatory, where they teach ballet and musical dance to children ages 3 to 18. They teach at My Noah's in Lindon and are building a studio in Lehi.

And she also hasn't quit the theater. She recently choreographed "Phantom of the Opera" for the Hale Centre Theatre in West Valley City and danced in it as well.
