Utah Valley State College on Wednesday broke ground for its new 180,000-square-foot library.
The $48 million building, called the Digital Learning Center, will provide learning technology to both students and community members.
The library is a necessary step in UVSC's goal to become a university.
"The Digital Learning Center will have a profound impact on UVSC's ability to meet the academic needs of a growing student body," spokeswoman Megan Laurie said in a statement.
The Legislature approved the funding for the library in March.
The building will include group study rooms, more than 140 computers with complete software packages and an extended hours area.
The technology in the library will be accessible to students on the main Orem campus as well as satellite campuses.
