The South Salt Lake City Council voted Mike Rutter as its newest member Wednesday after a seat became available late last month.

Rutter replaced Councilman Poponatui Sitake, who recently resigned to take a job in Arizona.

Rutter received four of the council's six votes Wednesday night, City Recorder Craig Burton said. Geri Miller received the other two.

Former Mayor Randy Fitts was among those who ran but later decided to withdraw from the race. Fitts, who is Holladay's city manager, had earlier acknowledged that serving on the same municipal body with his son Casey could be problematic. Casey was elected to South Salt Lake's City Council last month.

Ten other candidates, including former Councilman Boyd Marshall, current Planning Commission members Francis Lilly and Herbert Goldhardt and former Planning Commissioner Lloyd Anderson had also thrown their hats into the ring.
