Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. spoke to the Navajo Tribal Council about enhancing the relationship between Utah and the Navajo Nation during a 20-minute speech Monday in Window Rock, Ariz.

The speech may have been the first time a Utah governor has addressed the 88-person council, said Huntsman spokesman Mike Mower.

Huntsman discussed several issues, such as education, economic development and transportation, where the state and nation could work together, said Gayle McKeachnie, a Huntsman adviser.

Huntsman also met with Navajo leaders, including President Joe Shirley Jr., for a 15-minute meeting.

Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano also addressed the council Monday.
